Warning to All Companies in Singapore about Company Register.sg

UPDATE: One of our clients did contact the company and its confirmed that upon 'verifying' your details, you automatically signed up for their services and have to pay SGD $490.

So last night I went to open my company's letter box and noticed this really eye-catching envelope with the red / black words, "COMPANY REGISTER".

It looks quite official (like those the government bodies will send) with its window type envelope and prepaid postage.

Upon reading the contents, the entire letter makes it sound so scary as though your company will be taken off the records of "Singapore Company Register Database" if you do not follow its instructions of logging onto the website, www.companyregister.sg and using the login details to update your particulars.

(here is the letter in full)

At this point of time, stop and DO NOT FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS!

This is NOT a letter from the Singapore government and most certainly not ACRA, the regulating body of all businesses here. So even if you do not register, NOTHING will happen to your business details in ACRA but this company will get hold of your information.

Being a web developer myself, I went onto the site to find out what its all about.

(the site looks pretty decent and at the top it even allows you to login right away)

(there is also a disclaimer at the footer to tell you they are not affiliated to ACRA)

From some brief reading, this site seems to be collecting information about you, the owners and the business to create a listing for the purpose of company highlighting, domain registration, web hosting, web design, data storage design, and job posting for an annual fee of SGD $490.

So for those who have unfortunately registered, its best to contact them directly +65 3158 2647 to ensure you will not be billed because they might have inserted a small clause in their terms and conditions (that we all agree so blindly) with regards to that.

If you have contacted them and know the story, leave a comment below. Share this post with your friends and business partners.

PS: Hopefully the authorities can stop this company from sending such misleading letters for their own business gain.
